Best Time of Year to Get Married in Ghana
Choosing the right time of year for your wedding in Ghana can make a huge difference to your day — from the weather and venue availability to vendor pricing and guest attendance. Here's everything you need to know about the best months to get married in Ghana.
GHANA'S WEDDING SEASONS
Ghana has two main rainy seasons (April–June and September–November) and two dry seasons (December–March and July–August). The clear winner for weddings is the December to March dry season — it's also Harmattan season, which means cool, dry air and beautiful golden light for photos. The July–August minor dry season is also popular.
BEST MONTHS: DECEMBER TO MARCH
This is Ghana's peak wedding season for good reason. The weather is dry and predictable, diaspora relatives fly home for Christmas and New Year making it perfect for big family gatherings, and the festive atmosphere across Accra makes everything feel more celebratory. The downside: venues, caterers and photographers are at their most expensive and least available. Book 9–12 months ahead if you want a December or January wedding.
SECOND CHOICE: JULY–AUGUST
The minor dry season is increasingly popular for weddings — especially for couples who want a slightly quieter period with lower venue costs. It's school holiday season in Ghana, making it easier for families with children to attend. Weather is generally good, though brief showers are possible.
MONTHS TO AVOID (OR PLAN CAREFULLY)
April–June and September–November are the rainy seasons. If you must marry during these months, choose a venue with good covered outdoor space or an indoor backup plan. Prices are generally lower and venues more available — which can make a rainy season wedding work well for budget-conscious couples.
DAYS OF THE WEEK
Saturday is the most popular day for weddings in Ghana. Friday evening and Sunday afternoon weddings are growing in popularity and can often secure better rates from vendors. Avoid major public holidays (Independence Day in March, Republic Day in July) unless you specifically want that atmosphere — venues book up fast on these dates.
