What's Included in a Nigerian Wedding Venue Package? A Complete Guide
One of the most common sources of confusion — and unexpected costs — in Nigerian wedding planning is not knowing what a venue package actually includes. Here is a plain-language breakdown of what you should ask about and what you can typically expect.
The Basics: What Almost Every Venue Includes
The hire fee at most Nigerian event centres covers use of the hall for a specified number of hours (typically 6–8), electricity from the public grid, and access to the property's facilities. Beyond that, what is included varies significantly between venues and price points.
Tables and Chairs
Many mid-range and premium venues include standard tables and chairs in their hire fee. Some include them but charge extra for the table linen. Budget venues often require you to hire tables and chairs separately. Always confirm explicitly — "Does the hire fee include tables, chairs, and linens for [X] guests?" is a question worth asking in writing.
Generator / Power Backup
Most reputable Nigerian event venues include generator backup in their quoted price, but it is worth confirming. Some venues charge separately for generator usage — typically calculated by the hour or by fuel consumption. Ask whether the generator is included and what happens if it fails during your event.
Catering
Hotel venues almost always offer in-house catering and will typically require you to use it as a condition of booking. Standalone event centres are more flexible — many allow external caterers, though some charge a "corkage" or kitchen access fee. Confirm whether you have the option to bring your own caterer and what, if any, restrictions apply.
Security
Well-managed venues include security staff in their hire fee. Some budget venues do not — meaning you would need to arrange your own. At minimum, confirm that the venue will have at least two security personnel managing entry and the perimeter during your event.
Parking
On-site parking is usually included in the venue hire, but confirm capacity. Some Lagos and Abuja venues have limited parking that may not accommodate your guest count, requiring overflow arrangements on neighbouring streets or a shuttle arrangement.
Bridal Suite
A bridal preparation suite is included at many premium venues and some mid-range ones. Ask specifically — if not included, ask whether one can be added to the package, as many venues have this space but simply don't mention it unless asked.
Setup and Teardown Time
This is frequently overlooked. Your decorators need access to the venue before your guests arrive. Confirm what time external vendors can begin setup and what time teardown must be complete. Some venues include setup time in the hire window; others charge extra for early access. On teardown, ensure you understand who is responsible for clearing the venue and by what deadline.
Sound and Lighting
Basic lighting is usually included. In-house PA systems are included at some venues, not at others. If your DJ or band is bringing their own equipment, confirm that the venue's power supply can support it. Some venues also have restrictions on external sound equipment or maximum decibel levels, which is important to know before booking.
